This November, Oasis fans in Japan have a special opportunity: the “Live Forever: Oasis 30th Anniversary Exhibition” at the Roppongi Museum in Tokyo showcases a collection of memorabilia, including some of Noel’s guitars. The exhibition runs from November 1 to November 23, 2024.
All these guitars have been displayed before in the last decade, but it still is rare chance to see these iconic instruments up close.
Keep reading this post for more details and a photo gallery!
These are the guitars on display:
Gibson Les Paul “conversion”
Everyone knows all the backstories about this one. Its page was recently updated with more info.
Epiphone Riviera (Antique Sunburst, with Bigsby)
Featured on the Definitely Maybe album cover, this guitar has an aftermarket Bigsby tremolo unit and is a very significant early Oasis guitar.I haven’t finished its dedicated page yet; I have a couple of theories about it but need to do some deeper research… Coming soon!
Epiphone Sheraton (Union Jack)
Another major piece still missing on the website. It’s a Nashville Sheraton, made in USA in 1993 – a twin to the Knebworth guitar. Research into its historical details is still ongoing…
Rickenbacker 330 (Jetglo)
Also known as “not the guitar on the Supersonic artwork”! It was never played live but it was used on various studio recordings – most recently on Council Skies. Almost identical to Johnny Marr’s legendary The Smiths Rickenbacker (which, incidentally, is the one on the Supersonic single cover!).
Epiphone Riviera (Wine Red)
Don’t Look Back in Anger, Champagne Supernova, Morning Glory.
This guitar screams 1995 and peak Oasis.
Three guitar cases are also on display.
From left to right, they are: the case for the Gibson LP conversion, the case for the UJ Sheraton (marked with “THE CHIEF”), and the metal flight case for the Bigsby Epiphone Riviera.
