Details

The available photos of this behemoth SG with three pickups were too low in quality to properly identify the model year. I'd previously guessed it might have been an early '70s model in Cherry, based on what little could be seen. The only thing that seemed certain was the large, full pickguard—meaning it had to be a post-'65.

As it turns out, it is actually a 1968 model finished in Walnut. That was confirmed by the Manchester-based guitar dealer who sold it to Noel in April 1996.1

He played it in Cum On Feel the Noize, the ending track, during the first night at Maine Road (27 April 1996).

The same guitar was later seen in the hands of Gem Archer in the official video for Where Did It All Go Wrong? (released in March 2000) - and again in the full-band Top of the Pops performance of Sunday Morning Call (filmed in May 2000 but broadcast in July).2

As far as we know, it hasn't been seen since - and it's unclear whether it's still part of Noel's collection.
