It’s been a few busy months, and updates were lacking, but there are a couple of big articles in the works coming soon!
In the meantime, check out the four-part behind-the-scenes docu shot by Anais Gallagher. Each episode documents one month of the Council Skies recording sessions at Noel’s Lone Star Studio in early 2022. The first two episodes were originally available only with the limited digital Serenade edition of the album and are now free to watch for everyone on YouTube. The fourth and final part is coming next week.
The first two episodes show Noel (and Johnny Marr!) playing a few of their electric guitars in the studio. Keep reading for the detailed list!
Gibson ES-355 “Noel Gallagher Signature’: an exact replica of Noel’s Gibson ES-355 no.1 made by the Gibson Custom Shop. In the documentary, Noel plays it to record guitar parts for I’m Not Giving Up Tonight, Pretty Boy and Council Skies.
Epiphone USA Casino: one of Noel’s favourite guitars in the last couple of years. In the doc, it is played by both Noel and Johnny Marr for Open the Door, See What You Find and by Noel for I’m Not Giving Up Tonight. After this Royal Tan model, he also got two other USA Casinos, one in Sunburst and one in Cherry Red finish.
Fender Lead III: this rather uncommon Fender solid-body has never been played live, but Noel is seen recording rhythm guitar for Pretty Boy with it.
Fender Esquire: a guitar that has been around, both live and in the studio, since the early 2000s. In the doc, it can be seen in Gem’s hands while he is recording lead guitar for the track I’m Not Giving Up Tonight.
Fender The Edge Stratocaster: Noel’s main recording guitar during the EPs era, it gets played quite a bit both in Noel’s and Strangeboy’s hands.
The first three parts of the documentary are available to watch below. The last episode is coming next week.
UPDATE: the four parts are now available. They mixed up part 3 and part 4, apparently, but they’re in the correct order below. In part 3 a never seen before guitar makes a short appearance… it’s time for a new page on the website!
